The worlds of ShadowLight are two different lands that co-exist in the same space, but on different planes. Scandia is home to mankind, while Alvenheim is home to alves. Picture these two maps overlaying one another to see how the worlds relate to each other.
The old norse translation for Alvenheim is Elf Home.
